The Casino de Paris in Monte Carlo is the setting for the latest high-rolling poker game of the season. Many of the regular players are here: Charles Kingston, Zara Kavanagh and Alexandre Romanov to name a few. There are some new faces on the circuit, too.
Everyone is on edge. Phillipe Sancerre, the casino owner, has called in extra security. The last thing he wants tonight is bad publicity for the Casino.
With a minimum bid of $15,000, the stakes are high. No one here is too worried, everyone can afford it. But there is a tension in the air. Not the usual fusion of excitement and anticipation felt before a high-roller game, tonight there’s a different feeling about the place.
The stakes are high, alright. But for somebody, the stakes are higher than $15,000 a hand. Who’s taken a gamble and paid with their life? Who’s taken an even bigger gamble and committed murder..?
